Every one of us must have heard from parents or grandparents to munch on seasonal fruits and vegetables (seasonal food). Seasonal fruits and vegetables uphold the special message from mother nature, eat as per the climates demand not like the tongue. Nowadays, each healthcare provider, practitioner, holistic approach-based nutritionist, and others have marched themselves to influence people to turn back towards mother nature again instead of opting ready to eat or processed or packed foods.

So, here comes the list of foods available around the season:

  • Autumn Season: Mangoes, Corn, Squash, Cucumber, Garlic, Ginger, Bell peppers, Leeks, Pumpkin, Sweet potato, Beets, Broccoli.
  • Winter Season: Kale, Apples, Sweet potato, Beets, Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Brussels, Beans, Swiss chard, Lettuce, Carrots, Radish, Turnips, Acorn, Spaghetti.
  • Spring Season: Peas, Mushrooms, Turnips, Asparagus, Greens like colocasia leaves, spinach, Strawberry.
  • Summer Season: Melons, Lychee, Mangoes, Eggplant, Berries, Pears, Peaches, Okra, Summer squash, Nectarines, Cucumber, grapes.

Adding 2-3 varieties of fruits and 3-4 types of vegetables in our daily diet will be beneficial. As the seasonal fruits and vegetables are loaded with many nutrients including vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, flavonoids, phytonutrients, and more. If these seasonal foods are included along to our regular food, they make do wonders for our body.

Go for seasonal is attaining everyone’s attention. It’s an eye-catching momentum to eat with the season. Now, the question shoots in many of us’ minds is what to actually choose. Shall we go with local, organic, farmer’s choice, labels? Hence, I have an answer to this query. Prioritize your list first. Choose from seasonal, check for its local and organic stuff, and leave behind the packed ones.

Why selecting seasonal and locals as a first choice?

Locals are referred to as seasonal. It is referred to so owing to the fact we are buying something that is locally produced. Hence, buying locals frames the local economy too. If you are not pretty interested in changing the eating practices then only encouraging to buy local foods and prepare meals from it can do wonders in building both i.e. your health and the country’s economy. It is simple because seasonal foods are the freshest of all available in the market. They have not undergone the process of import and export. Farmers have not used any unusual ways to cultivate the crop. These foods are not grown in any unusual circumstances.

 What is organic?

Organic Foods (seasonal food) are the foods grown on a piece of land where the cultivation of the crops is done with minimal to low use of pesticides, insecticides. I would suggest if in case the foodstuff you are looking at in the market is not available then opt for organic food without keeping a hitch in the mind.

Coming back to heritage and culture we are now once again focusing on our seasonal food. We people are reviving our own roots. Hence, we all have to put our hands-on seasonal fruits and vegetables remarkably again. It is not only an utmost profit to the local farmers, environment, and economy but also the power-driven nutrition we get. Fossil fuel usage has bluntly lowered, similarly, changes can be seen in packaging and various different forms of waste.
